Getting Started & Your Consultation

Getting started with MedExpress is designed to be simple, safe, and fully online. Your consultation is reviewed by a Canadian-licensed healthcare professional, who determines whether treatment is appropriate for you.

This page explains what you may need to provide, how the consultation works, and what happens if you’re not eligible.

Use this page to understand:

  • Whether you need blood work or medical records

  • If you need a prescription before starting

  • What documents are required for verification

  • How the consultation process works step by step

  • What happens if you don’t meet the treatment criteria

Do I need to provide medical records or blood work?

You may be asked to provide recent blood work so the clinical team can better understand your health.

Blood work is more likely to be requested if you:

  • Have diabetes or pre-diabetes

  • Have relevant medical conditions that require additional review

Clinicians typically recommend:

  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

  • Lipid Panel

If you already have blood test results from the last 6 months, you can upload those results during your consultation.

If you do not have recent blood work, MedExpress can guide you on how to arrange testing through approved Canadian lab partners, often at a discounted rate.

Do I need a prescription from my doctor to start?

No. You do not need an existing prescription from your GP or family doctor.

A Canadian-licensed prescriber will:

  1. Review your consultation responses

  2. Assess your medical history and suitability

  3. Issue a prescription if the treatment is appropriate

You may choose to inform your GP that you are starting treatment, but this is optional.

What information do I need to provide for verification?

To prescribe weight loss medication safely, MedExpress requires identity and eligibility verification.

You will need to upload:

  • A valid photo ID
(for example: passport or driver’s licence)

  • A full-length photo of yourself standing
(used to support BMI and eligibility checks)

These verification steps help:

  • Confirm your identity and age

  • Ensure your BMI meets treatment criteria

  • Support safe and appropriate prescribing

All uploaded photos are:

  • Stored securely

  • Kept confidential

  • Used only for clinical verification purposes

How does the consultation process work?

The MedExpress consultation process is fully online and typically follows these steps:

  1. Choose your preferred treatment
Select the medication you are interested in.

  2. Complete the online health consultation
Provide details about your medical history, current health, and lifestyle.

  3. Upload your verification documents
Submit your photo ID and full-length photo for review.

  4. Clinical review by a licensed prescriber
A Canadian-licensed healthcare professional assesses your information.

  5. Prescription and dispensing
If treatment is appropriate, a prescription is issued and sent to the pharmacy.

  6. Medication delivery
Your medication is dispensed and shipped directly to your address.

  7. Ongoing clinical support
You can message the clinical team and access follow-up support during treatment.

What if I don’t meet the criteria for treatment?

If the clinical team determines that treatment is not appropriate for medical reasons, you will receive a full refund.

This includes:

  • The consultation fee

  • Any medication costs paid as part of your order

This ensures you are only charged if treatment is safe and suitable for you.

If you still need help after reviewing the information above, additional assistance is available.
