Does MedExpress replace my family doctor?

No. MedExpress does not replace your family doctor or regular GP.

MedExpress is designed to provide convenient online access to specific treatments, such as eligible prescription treatments reviewed through a MedExpress consultation. MedExpress clinicians assess whether the treatment you request is clinically appropriate based on the information you provide.

MedExpress is not designed to manage your overall healthcare or replace ongoing care from your regular doctor.

When should I use MedExpress?

You can use MedExpress when you want to request a specific treatment through an online consultation.

A MedExpress clinician can:

  • Review your consultation responses

  • Assess whether the requested treatment is suitable for you

  • Issue a prescription if treatment is clinically appropriate

  • Provide support related to your MedExpress treatment

When should I contact my family doctor or GP?

You should contact your family doctor, GP, or another appropriate healthcare professional if you have broader health concerns or symptoms that need further investigation.

This may include:

  • New or unexplained symptoms

  • Ongoing health problems

  • Complex medical conditions

  • Health concerns not related to your MedExpress treatment

  • Symptoms that require physical examination, testing, or long-term monitoring

MedExpress clinicians are not able to manage complex or unrelated medical conditions through the MedExpress service.

What happens if MedExpress identifies a health concern?

If a MedExpress clinician identifies something that may need further investigation, the clinician may advise you to seek appropriate care.

This may include contacting:

  • Your family doctor or GP

  • A local clinic

  • A specialist service

  • Emergency medical services, if your symptoms are urgent or severe

MedExpress will only prescribe treatment when the clinician decides that the treatment is clinically appropriate and safe based on your consultation.
