Why does my medication look different this month?

Your medication or injection pen may look different this month if your prescription, product, or medication supplier has changed.

This can happen if you have switched between branded medication and generic semaglutide, or if your generic semaglutide has been supplied by a different manufacturer.

Why does my pen look different after switching medication?

If you have switched from Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, or Zepbound® to generic semaglutide, your injection pen may look different because generic semaglutide is a different product.

Your pen may also look different if you switch from generic semaglutide back to a branded medication.

Different products may have different:

  • Pen designs

  • Packaging

  • Labels

  • Dose selectors

  • Injection instructions

  • Manufacturer details

Always follow the instructions provided with your specific medication and pen.

Why does my generic semaglutide pen look different from my previous generic pen?

If you have been using generic semaglutide and your new generic semaglutide pen looks different from your previous generic semaglutide pen, this may be because the medication was supplied by a different manufacturer.

The active ingredient and prescribed dose remain the same, but the pen design, packaging, or appearance may vary between manufacturers.

What should I check before using a pen that looks different?

Before using your medication, check:

  • The medication name on the packaging

  • The active ingredient

  • The prescribed dose strength

  • The expiry date

  • The instructions provided with your specific pen

  • That the medication looks as described in the patient information leaflet

Do not inject if you are unsure whether you have received the correct medication or correct dose.

What should I do if I am unsure?

If your medication or pen looks different and you are unsure whether it is correct, contact MedExpress customer support before using it.

MedExpress can help check whether the medication, dose strength, and pen instructions match your prescription.
